Three police officers have been attacked on a New Years Day incident in Hartlepool after a car was stolen and keys taken in a house burglary. Police have now charged Gary Hughes and Tyne Linda Elizabeth Wilkinson.
Today police have confirmed both Gary Hughes and Tyne Linda Elizabeth Wilkinson have both been charged and remanded in custody after both being accused of committing six offences between them on New Years Day.
Gary Hughes and Tyne Linda Elizabeth Wilkinson are accused of a crime spree on news years day whereby a house was burgled, a car was stolen during the crime spree three police officers were assaulted at different locations.
Hughes, 38 has been charged with attacking a male police officer in Northgate, (The headland) and Wilkinson, 33 is charged with attacking two female police officers in Hartlepool town centre.
Both of the pair are accused of stealing the car keys during a reported house burglary in Stockton Road before they allegedly stealing a Vauxhall Corsa.
A short time after the car was stolen it was spotted by a singled crewed officer on Cleveland Road who then followed the car onto the Northgate road and parked in front of the car as it pulled over to ask for directions.
Hughes has further been charged with using a motor vehicle without insurance or correct insurance and using a motor vehicle without a valid licence.
Both Hughes of Acorn Terrace, Gateshead and Wilkinson, of Stanley Walk, Stockton have been remanded in custody and each face a jury trial after denying the charges after appearing at Teesside Magistrates Court in Middlesbrough,
The case has now been transferred to Teesside Crown Court.
