Armed man arrested in grounds of Windsor Castle as Queen celebrates Christmas

Police have arrested an armed man has after breaking into the grounds of Windsor Castle on Christmas Day, police have said.

Police officers from Thames Valley & the Metropolitan Police were called by security after a breach which happened at about 8.30am in the grounds of the Castle.

A 19-year-old man from Southampton has been arrested and is in custody.

The Queen is celebrating Christmas at Windsor this year after cancelling traditional plans to go to Sandringham.

Superintendent Rebecca Mears, of Thames Valley Police, said: “An investigation is ongoing following this incident and we are working with colleagues from the Metropolitan police.

Police gave confirmed an arrest has been made and an investigation in now underway.
