Scotland will enter national lockdown at midnight tonight Nicola Sturgeon has announced.
The first minster has announced in Scottish Parliament there will be a legal requirement for people to stay at home for the duration of January, schools will remain closed.
Sturgeon announced “It is no exaggeration to say that I am more concerned about the situation we face now than I have been at any time since March last year,”
The new national lockdown within Scotland comes due to the increased transmissibility of the new COVID-19 variant which was first identified within the UK.
Sturgeon said the new lockdown would be very similar to the one in March saying “It is essential that we further limit interaction between different households to stem the spread and bring the situation back under control, while we vaccinate more people,”
“In short, we must return for a period to a situation much closer to the lockdown of last March.”
The Scotland lockdown is expected to last upto four weeks because NHS Scotland is becoming overrun with coronavirus patients.
