Dominoes players fined for breaking Covid-19 Tier 4 rules

Dominoes players have been fined for breaking Tier 4 rules after being caught playing within a restaurant.

Met Police have confirmed that 12 people were found hiding in the basement of a restaurant in Whitechapel in East London.

All have been fined for breaking the Tier 4 coronavirus rules after they were found to be playing dominoes.

Police officers found the group hiding in a dark room when officers entered the building, Met Police released a video which shows the restaurant owner saying: ‘They’re playing dominoes.”

The owner had first attempted to stall officers before claiming that the people inside the restaurant were workers.

All of those who had gathered to play the game were handed fixed penalty notices, Tower Hamlets Council have been asked to consider issuing the owner of the restaurant with a fine.

Chief Inspector Pete Shaw said: “The rules under Tier 4 are in place to keep all of us safe, and they do not exempt people from gathering to play games together in basements.

“The fact that these people hid from officers clearly shows they knew they were breaching the rules and have now been fined for their actions.”
