Eat Out to Help Out is launching with people across the UK being encouraged to visit restaurants and cafes again to an attempt to kick start the economy.
The Eat Out to Help Out Scheme has never been tried within the UK before is launching on Monday.
So we decided to answer a few commonly asked questions to help you understand the scheme.
What is Eat Out to Help Out?
You can use Eat Out to Help Out between August 3rd and the 31st where diners will get 50% discount on food and non-alcoholic drinks at participating restaurants, cafes and pubs.
You’ll be able to get the discount from Mondays to Wednesday and the discount entitles everyone to receive a discount of £10 per head.
For example if two people go out for food and spent £100 they will receive a discount of £20.
But if one person goes out and spends £2.50 on a coffee and sits in to drink it they’ll get a £1.25 discount.
Everyone is allowed to discount up-to £10 including children.
The businesses will then be able to claim back the discounted amount from the government and the funds will be within the businesses bank account within five working days.
How do i get a Eat Out to Help Out Voucher?
You won’t need a voucher and you’ll still be able to get the discount on offers and discounts already running.
Is there a minimum spend?
If, for example, you bought £5 worth of food from a participating business, you would pay £2.50.
What can I claim the discount on?
You can claim the discount on food and non-alcoholic drinks which enables you to use it for soft drinks, cakes and packaged snacks. These must be consumed on the premises and not taken away.
You cannot use it for alcoholic drinks, tobacco, as well as food or drink that is consumed off the premises.
Which businesses are taking part?
Businesses who are legally registered for tax are taking part in the scheme which include restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs, work and school canteens.
You are able to search for those taking part by going to the government website government website, where there is an option to put in your postcode and find restaurants within a five-mile radius.
Is there a limit on how many times I can use the scheme?
No, you can use it as many times as you like.
You can eat out as many times as you like across the same day and claim the discount.
