Cleveland Police are currently on the scene of a serious incident on the Headland within Hartlepool.

The incident has been ongoing for approximately two hours with officer numbers at the scene remains strong.

A large number of officers descended to the scene of the serious incident.

A cordon was put in place and the road in and out of the headland was closed to traffic while officers dealt with the ongoing incident.

An image from above the incident shows 14 police cars at the scene of the incident.

Specialist officers can be seen in the cordon appearing to be negotiating with a member of the public who appears to be withinside an address.

These officers are from the armed response unit and are kitted up in full protective equipment and safety shields.

Another officer is further back within the cordon watching over the front group of officers.

The nature of the incident is currently unknown.

It is advised that members of public avoid the area.
