Police have arrested three teenagers have been arrested after they allegedly coughed at an elderly couple.

The male’s ages 16, 18 and 19 approached the couple in Paynes Park, Hitchin before coughing in their face.

The incident resulted in an altercation then broke out in which the woman in her 70s ended up with a black eye.

She was taken to hospital which has now been discharged. The woman’s car was also damaged in the incident and passengers by who intervened at the scene were also left with bruising.

Officers questioned the three teenagers on suspicion of actual bodily harm, affray and criminal damage. They have since been released under investigation. Hertfordshire Police have called for anyone with information about the incident to get in touch.

They have also asked that members of the public do not share details of those believed to be involved on social media as this could disrupt the investigation.

Hertfordshire is currently in the top 10 counties with the highest number of coronavirus cases confirmed. So-far 92 people have tested positive for the virus in the area.

As of Sunday afternoon, 281 people have died from Covid-19 across the UK, while the number of cases has risen to 5,683. The number is expected to increase again once an update is announced later today.
