Coronavirus a baby believed to be aged under one year old has sadly died in a hospital in Chicago after testing positive for coronavirus.

The death of the baby is believed to be the first of an infant since the outbreak, It is not known if the baby had any underlying health conditions.

The incident was confirmed by the Illinois Department of Public Health but did not release the details of the tragedy.

“There has never before been a death associated with COVID-19 in an infant.  A full investigation is underway to determine the cause of death,” said IDPH Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike.

“We must do everything we can to prevent the spread of this deadly virus. If not to protect ourselves, but to protect those around us.”

linois has reported a total of 3,491 cases, including 47 deaths, in 43 counties in the state.

The age of cases ranges from younger than one to 99 years.

In the United States, the number of cases stood at 119,327 on Saturday afternoon with at least 1,992 deaths.

The United States has more Coronavirus cases than China and Italy.

The President Donald Trump has now said he is considering imposing a quarantine on New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
