It is with great sadness that we report the death of Caroline Flack who has tragically been found dead in her flat after taking her own life.

Sadly a lot of questions have to be asked of the media who have covered Caroline’s arrest over the past number of months.

Sadly the death of Caroline does show how we the media are responsible for our words and the impact they can have on others.

These words can be empowering or dangerous. Our industry needs to change, This is why we are proud to write balanced non-sensationalised news that encourages misinformation not to be shared.

Everyone knows balanced and non-sensationalised news does not sell, but the industry should take note and accept responsibility for today and that makes us ashamed to work within the industry we do.

The former Love Island host Caroline aged 40 was due to appear in court next month on charges of assaulting her boyfriend.

She was found in her East London flat today after a concern for her safety was raised.

Our thoughts are tonight with her family and friends at this absolutely devasting time, her death comes as her lover Lewis Burton, publicly made contact with her despite a court ban.

A family statement read: “We can confirm that our Caroline passed away today on the 15th February.

“We would ask that the press both respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time.”

Model Lewis, 27 denied the prosecution – with defiant Caroline determined to prove her innocence after denying assault by beating.

Lewis posted a sweet snap of the pair of them with the caption: “Happy valentines [red love heart] Love you [kissing emoji]”.

Caroline’s death has left her parents Christine and Ian, brother Paul and sisters Elizabeth and Jody heartbroken.
