Storm Area 51 started as an online joke but this weekend the event is going ahead

A joke which started on the internet to storm Area 51 and “see them aliens” has drawn hundreds of people to the mysterious US government facility.

Over half a million people have signed up to try and enter the military base in Nevada which some say holds alien technology.

We’re sure the storming of the facility will one day make for a great Hollywood movie,

The official event is taking place this weekend and is called Storm Area 51: They Can’t stop all of us.

The event says “We will all meet up at the Area 51 Alien Centre tourist attraction and coordinate our entry… let’s see them aliens.”

Already the event has drawn 1,500 to the two tiny desert towns close to Homey Airport and could have a positive impact of tourism to the area over the weekend.

No arrests have been made in relation to the event but so far 150 people have managed to get close enough to the event to get a selfie with the gates to the military base.

The US Air Force has already warned people not to try and enter the Nevada Test and Training Range, Where Area 51 is located.

The area is public land meaning people are allowed to go to the gate as long as they do not cross the boundary.

within the area already a makeshift festival has been set up in a town called Rachel which is the closet town to Area 51 which has for many years been subject to rumours which of course involve aliens and UFOs.

Recently Govert Sweep, 21, and Ties Granzier, 20, were arrested on 10 September in a car inside the Nevada National Security Site near Mercury -which is located more than 20 miles from Area 51.

They were arrested and sentenced to three days in jail and had to pay $2,300 each in fines.

It is believed anyone who crossed into Area 51.
