Three people have been injured two seriously following a terrifying incident in Wigton, Cumbria.

Cops were scrambled to the scene approximately 2 pm following reports that a woman and two men had been assaulted at two locations.

None of the victims are known to each other and one of the victims is believed to have been enjoying a family holiday.

All three people have been taken to hospital for treatment, unconfirmed reports have suggested that a man was drenched in blood and possibility stabbed those caught up in the incident.

Police have confirmed that a 52 year-old man has been arrested.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “Police are currently dealing with an incident in Wigton.

“A 52-year-old man from has been arrested following an incident where three people were assaulted.

“At 1:50pm it was reported to police that three people were assaulted in Wigton.

“A woman was injured on Church Street.

Two men were also injured on King Street.

“All three are being taken to hospital.

“Police and NWAS are in attendance at the scene.

“We are working quickly to establish the circumstances of what has occurred and who is involved.”

A huge police cordon has also been put in place.
