ITV’s Crime & Punishment season launches tonight at 9pm with Ross Kemp and the Armed Police.

The groundbreaking documentary was filmed over 12 months following police officers of the West Midlands Police, Northumbria Police, South Yorkshire Police and the British Transport Police firearms unit.

For his own safety, Ross Kemp was forced to wear a bullet-proof vest and attended a number of live-armed incidents across the United Kingdom.

He begins in suburbia, a place he admits he never expected to find guns that could be used in a myriad of crimes.

He also steps into the shady world of gun-smuggling when he meets a dealer who, rather chillingly, claims the police are seemingly powerless to stop him bringing weapons into the country.

The documentary airs at 9pm on ITV.
