Paedo Thomas Mason aged 34 had only known the mother of the child he preyed on for one hour before she was allowed to take the 5-year-old to the beach on own.

He took her to the beach in Ayrshire despite only knowing the girls mum for just one hour, The mum who was aged 45 had known the paedo through a mutual friend, this was enough for her to allow Mason to look after her five-year-old daughter.

She did not even his despite allowing her child to leave for the beach with Mason, instead of taking the girl to the beach he carried out a number of multiple depraves sex attacks on the girl over two days.

Her mum admitted that she’d only known him for one hour before allowing him to take her five-year-old to the beach with just the two of them.

On the first day, she allowed them to go to the beach on the second day she allowed them to go to the park, even making them a packed lunch.

despite only knowing Mason for one hour she admitted “I didn’t think she’d be in any danger. I thought she’d be well looked after.”

Mason took advantage of a vulnerable family, once the beach trip was over Mason attempted to take the five-year-old back to her mums home, but her father was working and did not want to be distributed allowing the paedo to take the girl back to his own home to carry out a sex attack at his own home in Stevenston Ayrshire.

When Mason returned home her mum asked the girl if: “You had a good day, didn’t you?” the girl is reported to have cuddled her mum and did not speak.

Her weeping mother, who has mental health problems, told Kilmarnock Sheriff Court heard: “I didn’t know she’d be in any danger and I didn’t know anything had happened by then.”

On the second day, they were late back and she realised her daughter was wearing different clothes and carrying a present.

“My daughter came up to me bedroom and said nothing. Her face was chalk white,” the woman said.

“She said, ‘Mum, I’ve got something to tell you’”. The girl described being forced to stand naked while Mason stared at her and carried out sex acts.

The mother added her daughter girl “smelt different” and said her lips were sore after Mason grabbed and kissed her.

She said: “I knew what had happened. It was mother’s instinct. I just phoned the police and said my daughter had been groomed and sexually abused by a paedophile.
“This was my worst nightmare that had ever happened to me.”

Manus Tolland, defending, asked why she failed to look for her daughter when she was late home.

The mother replied: “I wish I had done and I’ll have to live with that for the rest of my life.”

Mason, of Ardrossan, was found guilty of sexually assaulting the girl in Stevenston in July 2017.

The sentence was deferred, he was remanded in custody and placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
