A murder investigation has been launched after a woman was found dead next to a play park in Hartlepool.

Local residents have speculated this could be a teenage girl, they say she was stabbed to death. Police have now confirmed this is an adult woman.

A video of appeared on social media showing the aftermath of the attack claiming a 15-year-old had been stabbed police say this was an adult woman.

The incident happened near to a play park and behind a bus stop on Oxford Road Hartlepool.

Eyewitnesses say a local teenager was stabbed to death. Police have confirmed this is an adult woman.

Forensic officers are now conducting a forensic examination and have placed a blue forensic tent at the scene, over the spot the stabbing took place.

An ambulance remains on the scene with it’s doors open and blue-lights flashing. This is the brutal scene of a murder. A murder that happened within yards of a children’s play area.

A murder that will shock the community.

An Ambulance remains in place in the centre of the crime scene almost 2 and a half hours after the incident.

Police were called to reports of violence just before 10pm on Oxford Road in Hartlepool.

Police have not yet confirmed if a stabbing has taken place, what is known is this is a major policing incident which already has members of CID on scene alongside uniformed units.

Local shop owners have said they rushed out of their businesses to the sound of screaming and quickly alerted the police.

A young girl was laid on the floor she had just been stabbed.

A large group of youths could be seen shortly before police arrived.

A crime scene is currently in place on Oxford Road Hartlepool.

Cleveland Police have released a statement “Police are at the scene of an ongoing incident in Hartlepool.

“Officers were called to Oxford Road in the town just after 9pm on Friday 3rd August where a woman was found with serious injuries. She was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances of the incident and the road is expected to remain closed for some time.

“Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101. Information can be passed anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or www.crimestoppers-uk.org.”
