A murder investigation has been launched after a woman was found dead next to a play park in Hartlepool.

Local residents have speculated this could be a teenage girl, they say she was stabbed to death. Police have now confirmed this is an adult woman.

A video of appeared on social media showing the aftermath of the attack claiming a 15-year-old had been stabbed police say this was an adult woman.

The incident happened near to a play park and behind a bus stop on Oxford Road Hartlepool.

Detectives have now declared a murder investigation after a woman suffered significant injuries and died in Hartlepool.

The incident happened on Oxford Road just after 9pm on Friday 3rd August. The victim, an adult female, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Enquiries carried out so far have led detectives to believe that this was a targeted attack and a team of officers are working tirelessly to trace the person believed to be responsible.
