A girl aged 6 who vanished from her home in Rothesay on the Isle of Bute at around 6.25am and was found in woodland two-and-a-half hours later

The girl was tragically found dead after being discovered dead in woodland hours after she was reported missing.

Police say Little Alesha Macphail had vanished from her home in Rothesay on the Isle of Bute at around 6.25am and was found dead two-and-a-half hours later

The girls family issued a social media appeal after they woke up to find the Alesha missing from her bed.

Her Gran Angela King wrote on Facebook alongside a picture of the adorable youngster: “Alesha has gone missing from our house please help look for her”.

It is understood she was staying with her dad Rab MacPhail and grandparents Calum MacPhail and Angela King on the island.

But Police Scotland confirmed her body was discovered in woodland close to the site of a former hotel.

A spokesman said: “At around 6.25am this morning, police were informed a six-year-old girl was missing in Rothesay.

“A search was undertaken to try and locate the child.

“At around 9am the body of a young female child was discovered in woodland in Ardbeg Road.

“An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of the incident.”
