UK facing a ‘gas supply issue’ as country faces big freeze

Factories across the United Kingdom could be forced to temporarily stop production amid rising fears that there is only enough gas to supply households during the current freezing weather.

The National Grid has today issued an urgent gas deficit warning due to increased demand on Homes and businesses.

The news comes as red weather warning alerts remain in place for Wales and Scotland as strong winds head over from the Siberia bringing with it heavy snow fall.

The lack of gas supplies could mean factories are forced to go into a shut down until the weather passes and there is a new build up of gas within the UK.

Driving in the Snow

Where travel is necessary, drivers should:
Allow extra time for the journey Research your route as there could be significant differences in conditions within short distances Ensure you have 100% visibility before setting off

  • Drive slowly
  • Make use of main roads and avoid less used routes
  • Allow enough distance between you and the vehicle ahead
  • Take a flask with a hot drink
  • Take warm clothing

The Red weather warning issued by the Met Office means you should take action to keep yourself and others safe from the impact of the weather. Widespread damage, travel and power disruption and risk to life is likely.

You must avoid dangerous areas and follow the advice of the emergency services and local authorities.
