Man arrested on suspicion of murder after woman attacked in Tui shop in Southport

A travel agent has been tragically killed in an horrific incident in Southport.

Sadly the woman was attacked and killed at a TUI shop in Southport, Merseyside.

A man has now been arrested on suspicion of murder, it us believed he is the partner of the woman killed.

Armed police responded to an incident at the Chapel Street branch of the travel agent at 1.25pm on Saturday following reports of an injured woman.

The woman was rushed to hospital by air ambulance and sadly died from her injuries, Merseyside Police confirmed.

A 30-year-old man from Southport is in custody following what police have said the incident was domestic-related.

The woman was a worker within side the travel agents and was working at the time if the alleged attack.

“We regret to confirm that a female member of staff has been involved in an incident at our Southport TUI retail store today,” a statement from the travel agency said.

“We’re doing everything possible to assist the local police with their investigation and support our staff and customers at this difficult time.

“We will issue further statements as soon as information becomes available.”

A police forensics team was seen taking evidence from the store.

A total of 10 police vehicles and two air ambulances attended.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with information to contact Merseyside Police on 101 quoting log 470 of 13 January, or the Crimestoppers line anonymously on 0800 555 111.
