Police are currently dealing with a major ongoing incident at a Southport high street travel agent armed officers have descended on the scene of the ‘ongoing’ incident it is believed a woman has been attacked inside of the travel agents.
Officers responded to the incident very quickly and detained a man at the scene however the situation remains ongoing.
Officers received a 999 call to reports of an attack within the TUI travel agents and a woman has been airlifted to hospital.
The travel agents and a number of shops remained cordoned off, as many as 10 police cars responded to the incident.
Merseyside Police said in a statement: “Merseyside Police can confirm officers are currently at the scene of an incident in Southport.
“Officers were contacted at 1.25pm today, Saturday 13th January, following reports of concern for a female at a shop on Chapel Street.
“A female has been taken to hospital. A male has been detained are the scene.
“The incident remains ongoing.”
A spokesman for North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust said: “We got a call at 1.27pm to Chapel Street and we have sent numerous resources, including two air ambulances, a land ambulance and a couple of our advance paramedics.”
