A Murder investigation has been launched after a woman was murdered in North Tyneside.

Officers carried out a search on an address on Christmas Day on Tennyson Terrace, North Shields and found the body of Jillian Grant aged 38.

Officers have arrested a man aged 41 on suspicion of murder he currently remains in police custody.

Jillian is from York Court in Wallsend officers are now investigating how she came to be within that address and the circumstances leading up to her murder.

Senior investigating officer, DCI Helen Anderson said: “Enquiries to establish the circumstances around Jillian’s death are ongoing and a 41 year old man remains under arrest in connection with the investigation.

“We believe those involved were known to each other. Jillian’s family are currently being supported by specialist liaison officers.

“Police will continue to have a visible presence in the area around the address to reassure anyone who has any concerns and to carry out their own enquiries.”
