Police have launched an urgent investigation after an incident in which a man appeared to be carrying a gun entered a nursery in Liverpool.
Armed officers deployed to reports that a man was holding what appeared to be a firearm entered Childsplay Nursery on Heathfield Road in Wavertree.

Police are currently carrying out local area searches after the man walked into the Liverpool nursery carrying what looked like a gun.
The incident happened at 8.10am when he went into the Childsplay Nursery in Heathfield Road, Wavertree, shortly after 08:10 BST.
He approached a man in the nursery before he fleed the on a motorbike with a second man.

no was injured and there is no suggestion that the firearm was discharged or the reason why the man was at the Nursery with the gun.
Det Ch Insp John Webster said: “The investigation is in its very early stages and we are keeping an open mind as to why this has happened, but we believe it was targeted and that the men were looking for a man who was in the nursery at the time who is not a member of staff.”
He said the incident happened at a time when “children and their parents were arriving at the start of the day”.
Merseyside Police said officers remain at the nursery and a forensic examination is taking place.
Police are also making house-to-house inquiries and have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them on 101.
