A 17-month-old has sadly died in a tragic collision with a vehicle in a hotel car park in Greater Manchester.
Officers responded to the incident which was initially attended by armed officers at the Ibis Hotel on Trafford Road in Salford Quays just after 9pm on Thursday.
Sadly the child was hit by a Toyota Rav4 SUV within the hotel’s car park.
Greater Manchester Police Sergeant Brian Orr of the GMP Serious Collision Investigation Unit released saying “This was a heartbreaking incident involving a young boy which has understandably left his family distraught and the thoughts of everyone in the SCIU are with them at this terrible time.
“At the moment this appears to have been a truly tragic accident and not a suspicious incident; however we have launched an investigation to establish a full understanding of exactly what happened.
Initially, it was unclear what was happening at the hotel due to reports of armed officers attending the scene, however, it has been they only attended because they were the closest to the scene.
Forensic officers have been investigating the collision, but both hotels remain open.
Detectives have asked anyone with information about the collision to call Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741.
