Shocking: pensioner aged 72 held up with pen knife has purse stolen

Police are appealing for information following a report of a robbery in West Denton, Newcastle, this morning.

At around 11.20am a 72 year old woman was walking on a path near to West Avenue and Thomas Bewick School when she was approached by three men.

One of the men has threatened the victim with what is believed to be a pen knife before demanding money. The victim has then handed over her purse containing an amount of cash.

The victim was distressed by the incident but otherwise unhurt. Enquiries are ongoing to identify the men responsible but now police are asking any witnesses to come forward.

Two of the men are described as being 18-20 years old. One was described as a black male, wearing a grey tracksuit and was around 6’ tall. A second male was detailed as white, wearing leather gloves and a tracksuit and hoodie.
