Police launched an urgent appeal after a truck was “deliberately” driven into pedestrians in Manchester City Centre shortly after 11.20PM last night.

Emergency services responded to a call on Well Street which was busy with pedestrians at the time.

Police believe this was a targeted incident but it is not thought to be a terror attack.

There were no reports of any serious injuries but a man was said to have been struck by the truck. The man made off from the scene in a BMW after being hit, and officers say that the truck then chased the car for a short time.

The man had left the scene before officers arrived but he was later found and did not have any serious injuries.

Greater Manchester Police said “When this call first came in we were obviously concerned but we quickly established that this was not terror related.

“Thankfully there were no serious injuries, we could have been dealing with a much more serious situation.

“This was the city centre and there were lots of people in the area who would have witnessed the commotion.”
