Two people have been rescued after their boat capsized and sank into the sea at Hartlepool’s Headland on Saturday afternoon.

The boat sank very quickly forcing the two people on board into the freezing sea.

Hartlepool RNLI’s inshore lifeboat crew was at the scene within minutes of the incident happening.

They very quickly pulled two people out of the sea assisted by the crew of a Teesport pilot vessel. They responded to an ‘all-channels’emergency call for assistance that was broadcast to all ships and boats within the area.

Two people were rescued from the water and were taken ashore where they received medical treatment before being taken to a hospital.

The condition of both is not yet known.
