A man has been tragically killed after thieves ran over him with his own car after confronting them outside his home in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Michael Samwell aged 35 died after he attempted to stop his black Audi S3 from being stolen, after hearing a loud bang Mr Samwell and his wife were woken, he went down to investigate.
Police have now launched a murder investigation after he was found in the parking area behind his home in Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester with serious injuries and died a short time later in hospital.
Detective Superintendent Jon Chadwick said: “My thoughts go out to Michael’s wife and his family, I cannot comprehend what they must be going through.
“We have now launched a murder investigation and are searching for those responsible. This is the murder of an innocent man who has merely sought to protect his property from criminals.
“We will not stop until we have found the person responsible for this dreadful crime.”
Mr Samwell’s car was found abandoned and badly damaged a short time later three miles away in Whitby Avenue in the Ladybarn area of the city.
