On Christmas Eve a woman was shopping with her three children and husband at Sainsbury’s, the Arnison Centre, Durham when she collapsed and stopped breathing.

Sainsbury’s staff, a PCSO who happened to be on patrol in the area, and later an off-duty paramedic, worked on the woman. They gave her CPR and used a defibrillator which had only been present in the store for the last few months.

It is without a doubt that the prompt actions of all concerned saved the woman, 48, who collapsed due to a blood clot in her heart.

The woman, who has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home thanks to the quick thinking staff at Sainsbury’s and the emergency services.
