An eight-year-old girl has been rushed to hospital after she was stabbed in Edinburgh.

Emergency services responded to an incident at 1.35am on Wednesday morning inside a property within the city.

The young girl was found with serious injuries and was rushed to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children for treatment.

A 48-year-old woman was also found injured and taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. Her condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

It is believed that no one has been arrested in connection with the incident.
