The two children who were mauled by a dog in Colchester yesterday have been named by police.Four-month-old Archie Joe Darby was killed in the incident, while 22-month-old Daniel-Jay Darby is still seriously ill in hospital.
Police confirmed the incident happened inside a home on Harwich Road, Colchester, at around 3.10pm on Thursday.
Daniel-Jay Darby has also been left with what police have described as “life changing injuries”.
The dog, which is believed to be a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, was taken away from the house by police and has been destroyed.
Chief Inspector Elliot Judge said: “An investigation to establish the facts surrounding what happened is ongoing.
“This is obviously a very difficult time for the family, who are being supported by specially trained officers.”
The baby was initially taken to Colchester General Hospital with what were described as “life-threatening injuries”, but later died.
