‘Killer clown’ craze is wasting police time and must stop police warn

Police have warned that people dressing up as ‘Killer Clowns’ is having a massive drain on police resources and is wasting police time.

The stunts that the so-called ‘killer clowns’ are carrying out is no laughing matter.

There have now been a huge number of sightings across the UK, Four children were terrorised as they walked to school in County Durham.

Durham Constabulary have warned that these pranksters need to think seriously about these stupid acts.

Northumbria Police arrested a teenage boy who was jumping out at passers-by with a knife dressed as a clown.

Further sightings have been made in Middlesbrough where Cleveland Police are investigating a number of incidents of people being chased by clowns within the Pallister Park area.

Further incidents have been reported n Leeds, Edinburgh, Hampshire and Essex and we fear that the craze is only going to increase.

Gloucestershire police have responded to six emergency calls involving clowns jumping out on people wielding knives.

A Gloucestershire Police spokesman said: “The reports have mostly involved clowns carrying knives.

“In one case a child was followed. Clearly this has scared people and caused real distress.

“We have attended these incidents as grade 1 emergencies and that limits our ability to attend to other incidents.

“We haven’t traced anyone involved as yet as they have disappeared by the time we arrive but anyone we do find will be dealt with appropriately.

“Whether those involved are doing it for a joke or not, this is no laughing matter.

“These are stupid acts that are really frightening people and wasting our time. Please don’t be tempted to do it. Think of the consequences.”

What is a ‘Killer Clown’ 

It all began when videos from the US showed clown pranks in which people dressed as clowns with spades, knives and other weapons to catch people unawares and jump out on them creating a fear.

Is it a criminal offence

if you intend a person to be alarmed or distressed within the UK it is a criminal offence and you could be arrested and charged.

If you are carrying any knives or other weapons you could be further charged with a criminal offence.
