The Met Police has placed two police officers on restricted duties after an incident which happened on Friday night.

Police have also confirmed that having stopped a vehicle based on information relating to a man who is of interest to police. On conclusion of the incident, the officers identified that the driver was not the man in question and he was not arrested.

Met Police will now investigate to examine if the officer’s use of force during the incident was justified.

The incident took place at Weedington Road, NW5, at around 17:00 hours on Friday, 16 September.

The video shows a uniformed police officer repeatedly telling him to “get out of the car”, saying the driver is “not allowed to drive it”.

The officer then hits the driver’s side window with what appears to be a baton.

The driver, who filmed the footage on his phone, can be heard saying “I’ve got a licence. I’ve got insurance. You’re smashing this for no reason.”

The Police Officer is then seen hitting the windscreen and shattering the glass. The officer then uses what looks like a pen knife and starts slicing around the damaged glass.

The driver who only wants to be named as Leon has said that the incident was a case of mistaken identity and he believes it was a completely unlawful act.

A Met Police spokesperson confirmed “As soon as the MPS was made aware of the footage, the DPS was contacted immediately.

“As this matter is in its early stages, the officers have not been suspended or placed on restricted duties.”

We should not be quick to judge this video as it only lasts for 60 seconds. We do not know the circumstances leading up to this.

Simply If you are not going to come out your car the police are going to smash your window and pull you out it is as simple as that.
