Northumbria Police investigating a rape after a woman got into a car on Burn Park Road in Sunderland have arrested a man.

The woman was raped in a nearby car park, Officers have now arrested a 29-year-old on suspicion of rape.

The man from the Sunderland area has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Specialist officers are continuing to support the victim and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

Police would continue to ask for any witnesses, or anyone with any information, to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 1261 13/09/16.
