Durham Police have confirmed they have arrested a man on suspicion of arson following a huge fire in Langley Park, Durham.

Flames and thick black smoke could be seen as far as Durham City.

 

Fire fighters were faced with plumes of black smoke as they travelled to tackle the fire.

The 54-year-old is currently in police custody and assisting police with their enquiries.

Emergency services are still on the scene of the fire in Riverside Industrial Estate.

Police are asking the public to keep away from the scene and take care when driving within the area.

There is still a significant amount of black smoke which is affecting visibility within the area.

As soon as the fire is safe it will be declared a crime scene and investigators will begin a painstaking fire investigation.

35 firefighters spent the day tacking the massive fire that has broke out at a in a unit on the Riverside Industrial Estate at Langley Park in County Durham.

County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service confirmed at one point that the fire was under control and is escalating at a big unit measuring 100 metres by 30 metres.

One man has been treated for smoke inhalation at the scene, but no-one else has been reported hurt and there have been no evacuations.
