Police in Newcastle have launched an investigation following a stabbing in the city centre.

Police responded to reports of an assault in Grainger Street, Newcastle Tuesday, July 26, following reports of an injured man.

Officers attended and found a man in the street outside the Mile Castle pub had been stabbed and suffered a leg injury.  He has been taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary for treatment.

Police are investigating and are appealing for witnesses anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact police.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101, quoting log number 1038 of  26/07/16 or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
