Woman punched in the face and handbag stolen while out walking in Gosforth

Police are appealing for information after a woman was assaulted near to Warkworth Woods in Gosforth.

At 11:15pm on Monday, June 27, a 33-year-old woman was walking near to the Great Park estate when she was approached from behind by a man who assaulted her.

The offender punched her in the face and tried to steal her bag before making off with a small amount of cash.

He is described as being in his mid to late teens, around 5ft 8ins tall and of medium build. He had short dark hair that is shaved on the sides and longer and more wavy on top. He was wearing a dark blue coloured top.

Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 1231 27/06/16
