Would-be cashpoint robbers used a stolen 4×4 to try and steal a cashpoint in Durham City.

The attempted robbery happened at WILKO, Arnison Centre, at 2.00am on Monday, June, 27.

Two suspects, both men, and described as wearing balaclavas and having local accents were driving a burgundy Landrover Defender with a white roof when they attempted to steal the ATM.

Police believe the Landrover reversed several times into the front of the building in an attempt to steal a cashpoint located inside however the tow bar came off the vehicle and was left at the scene. The suspects then left the scene and abandoned the 4×4 in a wooded area near to Nettlesworth.
