Labour MP Jo Cox has been shot and stabbed on the steps of Birstall Library in Leeds where the MP holds advice surgeries.

Ms Cox, 41 and a mother of two, is Labour MP for Batley and Spen. She won the seat in the 2015 general election.

A second person, who has not been identified, was also injured and taken to hospital after the attack, which was said to have taken place sometime after 1pm today.

The gunman remains at large and a Police hunt is ongoing.

Ms Cox’s injuries are said to be critical
