Driver arrested on suspicion of drink driving and driving whilst disqualified pedestrian seriously injured

Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman pedestrian was seriously injured in a collision with a car on Monday afternoon. 

The incident happened shortly before 5pm on Easson Road off Gladstone Street in Darlington.
A silver Hyundai car left the road and struck a number of parked vehicles before colliding with the pedestrian. It also caused considerable damage to the front a property on the street.
 The victim, a woman believed to be her 40s, sustained serious head injuries and was taken to James Cook hospital in Middlesbrough. Her condition is described as critical.

 A man, 25 was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving and driving whilst disqualified.

 He remains in custody at Darlington police station as of Tuesday morning.
