A man arrested on Monday in connection with a stabbing in Shildon at the weekend is to appear before magistrates later today.
William Edward Hopwood, aged 49 from Burnie Gardens, Shildon was last night charged with an offence of wounding and also assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He is due to appear at Newton Aycliffe magistrates court sometime this morning.
The incident took place in Shildon on Sunday afternoon, 22nd May and the victim, aged 44 remains in a stable condition in hospital where he is being treated for a several stab wounds to the body.
