Cleveland Police CID have launched an investigation following the suspicious death of a woman in Hartlepool. 

Police want to hear from anyone who may of seen or heard anything suspicious leading upto the fire. 

Police responded to a fire on Westbourne Road in Hartlepool on Sunday 3rd April ar 8.25am. 

The body of an elderly woman was found inside the address and officers are currently treating her death as suspicious. 

Police have not yet confirmed the idenity of the woman but have confirmed a post mortem examination will be held later today.

One local resident who did not wish to be named told Police Hour the first they had heard of the fire was when the fire engines arrived in the street. 

Police Officers have been conducting house to house enquires in the area and offering visible re-assurance to local residence within the area.

Anyone who may have information regarding the fire or anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area of Westbourne Road this morning is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
