Cleveland Police officers in Hartlepool took two teenagers home after they killed Angela Wrightson. They laughed and joked as officers drove them home.

The girls called Cleveland Police requesting they be picked up. Police had been urgently looking to trace the girls after a high risk missing persons search for both the teenagers was launched.

Police failed to noticed both girls had blood stained clothes on as they gave them a lift home. Officers would not have noticed the blood as it was 4am on a December morning when the girls were picked up by police.

Within the hours that the girls had been reported missing police did not know they had battered Angela Wrightson to death.
