Officers from North Yorkshire police spent the evening freeing motorists who were trapped on the A1(M) for serveral hours.
#A1 closed J47 – J48 northbound due to serious RTC. Update will follow once re-open.

Advice was issued requesting motorists to stay within their cars.

Police began an opperation to get traffic moving again and free drivers who became trapped on the A1(M).
A1(M) will be closed NB J47 to J48 for some hours. We are releasing trapped traffic as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience.

Police worked to turn traffic arround managing to clear some of the traffic.

Police managed to open the road again at 4.50am

Some people report they had been stranded since 8pm last night, However thanked the police for the job they did.
