Officers from Durham Police, the North East Ambulance Service HART team and 9 appliances from Durham & Darlington and Tyne Wear FRS attended a large fire this evening (Sunday 13th September 205) at the Harbour View Hotel, North Terrace, Seaham.
Several local residents were evacuated as a precaution and whilst the fire is now extinguished, fire appliances will remain on scene overnight to ensure no recurrence.

Due to the intensity of the fire the building, which was not believed occupied at the time, has partially collapsed onto the pavement and road. To ensure public safety, North Terrace remains closed to both pedestrians and vehicles pending a structural assessment. A joint Fire and Police investigation into the cause of the fire will continue this morning.
