Ongoing Incident at Primary school in Price Consort Road, Gateshead

Police are currently dealing with an incident in Price Consort Road, Gateshead.
At 2:58am this morning police on patrolin Durham Road spotted a red Suzuki Swift driving with no lights on and signalled for it to pull over.
The vehicle failed to do so and drove away from police. 

Officers followed the car, which was being driven by two men, for a short distance when it drove at officers and collided into the police car.

The two men in the car then tried to flee the scene however one man was arrested.

The other climbed on top of the roof of St Joseph’s school in Prince Consort Road.

He currently remains on the roof and is refusing to come down. Specialist officers are at the scene speaking with the man and making attempts to get him to come down from the roof safely. 

A section of the area around the school is cordoned off as a precaution and enquiries are ongoing into the incident.
