M56 hit by delays as man stood on bridge near airport turn off, full road closure in place

Police are advising motorists of significant delays around the M56 this morning.
Shortly after 9.15am on Saturday 5 September 2015, police were called to the M56 motorway to reports that a man was stood on the top of the bridge near to the airport turn off.

Officers and other emergency services are currently at the scene and specially trained officers are speaking with the man.
There is a temporary full road closure in place on the eastbound carriageway. 

The westbound carriageway has been closed from junction five and traffic is being diverted via the airport slip road back onto the M56, just prior to junction six.
Inspector John Armfield said: “We are grateful to the vast majority of the public who have been cooperative and understanding as we deal with this incident. 

“We are diverting traffic where we can but appreciate that the road closures are causing some inconvenience to motorists.  I would ask for the public’s continued patience and understanding as we deal with this sensitive matter.”
