A female Police Constable has been praised after she shielded a man during a fight who said he was afraid.

The Cleveland Police officer Lauren Somerville aged 29, shielded the man’s body as the fight broke out at Middlesbrough’s Riverside Stadium

She then lead him to a nearby bus stop so he could catch his bus home after the football match.

The detective constable was approached by a man when i fight broke out, he informed her he was scared and she acted to protect him and sheild him from the fight.

When they got to the bus stop the man remained afraid so she invited him back to the police station for a hot drink.

A picture has now gone viral on social media which has called the DC out as a hero.

DC Somerville said “I immediately realised this was a vulnerable man, so I told him to stay behind me and to hang on to me, which he certainly did.”
“We walked with the crowd along Windward Way but I realised he wouldn’t be able to keep up so we held back and I reassured him he had done exactly the right thing by identifying someone who could help him.”

“He was asking me about the helicopter which was overhead so I told him they were keeping an eye on us and keeping us safe.”
