Police Officer Charged with Sexual Offence 

PC John Wigglesworth, 46, a serving police officer attached to the Roads and Transport Policing Command, is scheduled to appear in custody at Redbridge Magistrates’ Court today, 05 August, charged with; 

– Two counts of Rape with a girl aged 13-15 contrary to S1 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003 and;
– Two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a girl aged 13-15 contrary to S9.1 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

Wigglesworth was arrested at his home address on Tuesday, 4 August and charged later that day. He was not on duty at the time of the arrest. 
The officer has been suspended.  The offences are alleged to have taken place between 2008 – 2010.
Officers from Sexual Offences Exploitation & Child Abuse are investigating.
The Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed as a matter of course.
