This is an update regarding the man rescued from the River Tyne.
Police have arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of affray.
The incident happened at just before 6.20pm, on Sunday, July 19, police received a report of man causing a disturbance on the Millennium Bridge, Gateshead before entering the water.
Officers attended the scene where the man was found armed with a metal bar and on the wrong side of the railings. Officers attempted to negotiate with the man, however, he entered the water.
Police were on board a fire boat which located the man. He has now been recovered from the water and will be checked by paramedics.
