Urgent appeal to locate missing elderly man on the outskirts of York

North Yorkshire Police is urgently seeking the public’s help to locate a missing 84-year-old man.

John Symington was last seen getting off a coach at the Breezy Knees Nurseries in Warthill, a village on the outskirts of York near Stockton on the Forest, at 3.45pm yesterday (Wednesday 3 June) afternoon.

He failed to return to the coach and police were alerted.

Mr Symington, who is from Dundee, Scotland, is described as white, about 6ft tall, slim build, with a fair complexion and receding white hair which is curly at the back.
He is wearing a brown jacket, grey trousers and carrying a white knitted bag.

Extensive searches involving specially trained police officers, Search and Rescue and the police helicopter, have so far failed to locate Mr Symington.

The search effort resumed at 4.30am.

Inspector Mark Henderson, from the Force Control Room, said “We are becoming increasingly concerned for the safety of Mr Symington and ask the public to be on the lookout for him or any possible sightings since Wednesday afternoon.”

If you can help, please call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 1 to speak to the Force Control Room.
