Police dealing with a disturbance in Newcastle City Centre have arrested a man.

At 6pm today (Saturday, June 6) policewere called to Old Eldon Square in the city centre. A 19-year-old man suffered stab wounds, he was taken to hospital for treatment. His condition is stableand his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A 17-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and is in police custody.
Extra officers remain in the city centre to offer reassurance, anyone concerned can speak to an officer on patrol.
Officers are continuing to carry out enquiries and appeal for witnesses.
